Starting a Club

The 4-H program in St. Croix County revolves around the 4-H Community Club and community clubs come in all shapes and sizes. Right now the St. Croix County 4-H Club range in size from 1- members and 1 or 2 adult leaders to 80 members and many adult leaders. Starting a 4-H club in your neighborhood may be easier than you think.

Here is some basic information to entice you you to think about it more...

  • Most community clubs meet monthly and it works best if the parents participate with their children. Clubs are expected to hold at least 10 club meeting throughout the year.
  • 4-H membership is open to any youth in the 1st grade through 1 year past high school. You need 5 or more youth from at least 3 different families.
  • One of the benefits of a 4-H club is it involves boys and girls, both kids and adults working together to share and learn from one another.
  • Youth must be involved in developing the educational plan and making decisions for the club.
  • Adult leadership for the club receives training and must complete the Wisconsin 4-H Youth Protection Program.

Another great source of information for working with 4-H Clubs can be found on the Wisconsin 4-H website. It's called "4-H Community Club Central".

Of course you can always contact the UWEX Office at (715) 683-3301, Ext 5 or email us at info AT stcroixcounty4-h.org. We would be happy to help you organize a new club in your neighborhood!
